This work is centred upon my own relationship with my mother, a single parent, who has raised my brother and myself for the last 14 years. In so doing the work draws upon a situation and circumstance that is hardly unique: a single parent who works so hard, with no reward beyond the confines of the household to shelter (and sometimes not even within it) to clothes, food and house their children and provide a stable and safe environment. As a result, their own interests in life become subsumed within the responsibility of parenthood
